Morphological Features of Species
Xanthonema cells exist as single or few-celled filaments and tend to dissociate easily. The length-width ratio of the cells is (4.5min)6.5(8.4max) x (6.0min) 6.8(7.7max) µm. The cells are barrel-shaped and the cell wall is moderately thickened however, H-pieces are not distinctly present. Chloroplasts surround the entire cell wall and exist in 3-4 pieces (Broady,2019).
