Morphological Features of Species
The filaments are long and robust approximately possed 6.1 µm width. The length-width ratio of the cells is (5min)8.4(11.8max) x (5min) 6.1 (7.4max) µm. The cells sometimes grow in rope-like aggregates and they are cylindrical or barrel-shaped. The cell wall is moderately thickened and H-fragments are prominently present. The chloroplasts are dissected in four or more lobes with a median incision at the edge covering half to ¾ of the cell interior surface. Pyrenoid is large and surrounded by several layers of starch grains. K. elegans cells in liquid media forming submerged tufts whereas on agar forming rough undulating colonies (Mikailyuk,2015).
