Morphological Features of Species
Cells are ovoid to cylindrical and typically form coenobia consisting of a few cells aligned in a straight or slightly curved row. Outer cells frequently bear long spines, whereas inner cells are smooth-walled. Each cell contains a parietal chloroplast with a distinct pyrenoid, and reproduction occurs asexually by autosporulation within the parental cell wall.
