Morphological Features of Species
Scenedesmaceae are non-motile green algae that form coenobial colonies, usually arranged in straight or slightly curved rows. Cells are cylindrical, ellipsoid, or ovoid, typically 5–30 µm in size, and may display smooth walls or terminal spines. Colonies are sometimes embedded in a thin mucilaginous envelope. Each cell contains a parietal chloroplast with a distinct pyrenoid, and reproduction occurs asexually by autosporulation.
