Morphological Features of Species
Cells are elongate to ovoid, usually 10–30 µm long, and align in compact coenobia that may be linear or slightly curved. Colonies vary in size and shape, with outer cells often bearing long spines, while inner cells remain smooth-walled. Each cell contains a parietal chloroplast with a single pyrenoid, and multiplication takes place through autosporulation.
