Morphological Features of Species
Cells are ovoid to elongate, measuring about 5–15 µm in width and 10–30 µm in length. They typically occur in non-motile colonies of 2, 4, or 8 cells, aligned in a linear or slightly curved arrangement. Terminal cells often develop long spines, while inner cells are smooth-walled. Each cell contains a single parietal chloroplast with a pyrenoid. Reproduction takes place asexually by autosporulation within the parental cell wall.
