Morphological Features of Species

Filaments consist of cylindrical cells, usually 5–7 μm long and 3–4 μm wide, with a length-to-width ratio of about 1.4–2.0. Apical cells are rounded or slightly elongated after trichome breakage, and no calyptra is present. Thylakoid keritomy is frequently observed, most pronounced in heterocytes and least in akinetes.
